Ghana will impose an export ban on unprocessed minerals beginning in 2030, President John Mahama announced. The policy targets the country's gold production and aims to redirect minerals through domestic processing facilities before international sale. Officials expect the measure will stimulate local industrial development and create downstream manufacturing jobs. The ban represents Ghana's effort to move beyond commodity export reliance and establish itself as a minerals processing hub for the region. Implementation will require significant infrastructure investment and development of domestic refining capacity over the next four years.
