Airfreight rates are strengthening as carriers approach the traditional peak shipping period, with the global Baltic Air Freight Index climbing 0.9% year-over-year. Transpacific lanes show strong gains, while Asia-Europe corridors are recovering following the European Union's elimination of de minimis exemptions in July. Jet fuel costs are intensifying pressure on pricing, with rates surging 116.5% year-over-year as of mid-September. China-Europe routes are firming week-over-week as e-commerce volumes rebound from disruption caused by the EU regulatory change. However, China-US rates declined modestly in recent weeks despite strong annual comparisons. Performance across individual lanes remains inconsistent, with routes from Southeast Asia and East Asia showing mixed signals. European transatlantic rates softened overall, though select gateways including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and London bucked the trend.
