Airport community systems must eliminate inefficiency rather than simply digitize existing processes, ground handling executives warned at TIACA's Executive Summit in Warsaw this week. While delegates acknowledged that greater data connectivity and stakeholder information-sharing could boost air cargo supply chain efficiency, concerns emerged that some platforms were failing to address root operational problems. Kai Domscheit, managing director of Frankfurt-based handler CHI Cargo Group, cautioned the industry to implement community systems carefully. He noted that slot management systems in particular risked concealing operational shortcomings instead of resolving them. Domscheit pointed to handlers using slot management tools to deflect responsibility for labor shortages rather than addressing capacity constraints transparently. Warehouses with more truck docks than available staff exemplify this problem. Such situations reveal how systems fail to provide customers accurate visibility into actual operational capacity, making performance assessment difficult.
