IAI, Merlin Partner to Develop Autonomous Freighter Operations

Israel Aerospace Industries and Merlin signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop autonomous capabilities for cargo aircraft operations. The partnership focuses on advancing technology integration and certification pathways for commercial freighters. Both companies will collaborate on market analysis, engineering development, regulatory strategy, and platform evaluation. This work will establish a foundation for a binding commercial agreement and civil certification approval. The initiative represents part of Merlin's broader Condor program, which targets autonomous flight systems for large multi-crew aircraft including freighters. Merlin previously signed a similar agreement with World Star Aviation in May as part of the Condor launch. Industry observers note the partnership signals growing momentum in autonomous cargo aviation development, with potential benefits including enhanced safety, operational efficiency gains, and improved fleet utilization to meet rising cargo demand.
