International Business Machines is committing $5 billion toward a new cybersecurity platform designed to identify and remediate vulnerabilities in open-source software. CEO Arvind Krishna said Anthropic's Mythos was the critical triggering factor for the investment. Red Hat is collaborating on the effort, dubbed Project Lightwell. The platform will help enterprise customers locate security gaps and determine patch availability across their systems. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and Bank of America have signed on as early adopters. IBM is also participating in Project Glasswing, a broader cybersecurity initiative focused on emerging threats. Krishna noted that modern language models demonstrate considerable capability in identifying vulnerabilities across both proprietary and open-source code. Industry leaders continue deliberating on coordinated responses to evolving cyber risks.
