India's natural gas power output has fallen to its lowest level in at least six years, as geopolitical tensions in Iran constrain fuel shipments to the nation's power sector. The disruption arrives at a critical moment, with peak electricity demand reaching an unprecedented 270.8 gigawatts last week amid an intense summer heat wave. Peak consumption rose for four consecutive days as residents increased air conditioning usage. While solar generation helped meet daytime needs, nighttime electricity demand also hit record levels, straining the grid's capacity. Gas-fired power plants, operating well below capacity due to fuel supply constraints, have intensified pressure on India's electricity infrastructure during the peak demand period.
