Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has waived half of ground rent charges for import containers delayed by truck driver shortages. The relief applies to boxes that arrived May 1 or later and departed by June 20, addressing extended dwell times caused by trailer capacity constraints during April and May. Container freight stations and direct port delivery importers faced significant evacuation delays, triggering inventory buildups at the facility. JNPA acknowledged importer hardship while noting that evacuation responsibility rests with logistics operators and consignees. The concession follows industry appeals to the Ministry of Shipping and represents the port's second tariff relief initiative this year. However, trade groups are pressing JNPA for permanent infrastructure improvements to manage future capacity crunches rather than temporary compensation measures.
