An Indian-flagged bulk carrier sank in the Gulf of Oman following an attack that set the ship ablaze. New Delhi condemned the incident as unacceptable. The vessel was among several commercial ships struck by hostile fire in the strategically vital waterway. A U.S.-managed bulk carrier was also targeted in the same attacks, adding to concerns over maritime security in the Persian Gulf region.
The incidents occurred as a fragile ceasefire remained in place following 10 weeks of regional conflict. Shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz showed signs of recovery. At least ten large tankers carrying oil, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas successfully transited the waterway since Sunday, including two India-bound LPG carriers. The attacks underscore persistent risks facing commercial vessels in one of the world's most critical shipping lanes.
