Terminal operators at major Indian ports have increased container handling charges, adding pressure on cargo owners already contending with Middle East-related surcharges. DP World's Mundra International Container Terminal raised fees by 15% to 20% effective Friday, according to industry sources. According to an Emirates Shipping Line customer advisory, twenty-foot dry container THCs rose to INR15,500 from INR13,700, while 40-foot boxes climbed to INR23,450 from INR20,750. Since carriers typically collect THCs on behalf of shippers, the increases allow container lines to boost revenues through mark-up attempts. Other Mundra terminals are expected to announce similar hikes imminently. Singapore-based container line ONE has already published revised THC rates across Nhava Sheva terminals, applicable to all trade lanes and valid until further notice.
