Container handling charges at major Indian ports have spiked sharply, adding fresh cost pressures on shippers already contending with regional surcharges. Mundra International Container Terminal, operated by DP World, implemented increases of 15% to 20% effective Friday. Twenty-foot dry containers now carry charges of INR15,500, up from INR13,700, while 40-foot boxes jumped to INR23,450 from INR20,750. Ocean Network Express has posted revised THC schedules across Nhava Sheva terminals, citing rates valid until further notice. Hapag-Lloyd adjusted its collected THCs on April 1, with additional revisions anticipated. Carriers typically coordinate THC announcements. However, terminal pricing remains inconsistent even within individual ports, complicating planning for importers and exporters navigating India's gateway hubs.
