The freight industry needs binding standards governing electronic logging device data as regulators continue revoking ELD registrations over hours-of-service manipulation concerns. Brokers rely on ELD connections to verify carrier operations, vehicle associations, and load-matching capacity. Carriers depend on data integrity to demonstrate operational capability and access freight. However, FMCSA registration alone cannot serve as comprehensive validation. Freight platforms must maintain independent integration requirements separate from regulatory approval. Providers sometimes reappear under new names after prior revocations; platforms must review historical records beyond rebranding. When enforcement action targets specific ELD providers, legitimate carriers using those systems need clear communication and reasonable transition periods to switch providers. ELD telemetry should inform carrier risk assessment without bearing sole responsibility for critical decisions. Balanced enforcement protects network integrity while avoiding collective penalties on compliant carriers.
