Approximately 6,000 motor carriers faced involuntary suspensions this week following unexpected Motus reclassifications that raised bodily injury and property damage insurance requirements from $750,000 or below. Small flatbed operators report difficulty maintaining operations under the new insurance thresholds. Flatbed spot linehaul rates averaged $2.65 per mile last week, up 0.4% and holding near nine-year highs despite declining load postings. Dry van rates ranged between $2.24 and $2.26 per mile, as load activity cooled. Capacity constraints continue supporting rate floors across both segments, limiting downward pressure despite softer freight demand.
