J.B. Hunt Transport Services reported record intermodal volumes in the second quarter as shippers shifted away from traditional trucking. Regulatory pressures and compliance challenges drove the trend. The Lowell, Arkansas carrier posted a 10% year-over-year increase in intermodal loads, outpacing 8% growth across the North American intermodal market. Eastern regional volumes surged 16%, marking a 31% jump on a two-year basis. Intermodal revenue climbed 22% to $1.75 billion, boosted by higher load counts and 11% revenue-per-load gains. The company's dedicated truckload capacity hit all-time highs. Operating income jumped 32% to $259 million on 19% revenue growth. Executives highlighted conversion activity at decade-high levels, attributing momentum to shippers prioritizing safe, reliable capacity.
