Nearly 250 positions are being eliminated across logistics and distribution operations in New Jersey, North Carolina, Illinois and California. Financial pressures continue throughout the freight sector. Fusion Transport LLC, a New Jersey-based logistics provider, will lay off 79 workers at its Piscataway facility effective October 1, marking the largest announced reduction. The company specializes in freight management, warehousing, e-commerce fulfillment and retail consolidation. Nine transportation and logistics firms have recently filed for bankruptcy protection, including motor carriers, drayage operators and supply chain service providers. Jackson and Son Hauling LLC, a Virginia-based carrier operating two trucks, filed Chapter 7 protection in July. A California-based drayage and intermodal carrier with 40-50 power units filed Chapter 11 protection in June after investing substantially in zero-emission equipment for Los Angeles operations. These filings highlight financial stress across trucking, freight forwarding, warehousing and manufacturing segments.
