A nine-person jury will begin deliberating Monday in the first phase of Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, CEO Sam Altman, and President Greg Brockman over the company's conversion to a for-profit structure. The trial concluded Thursday in federal court in Oakland, California, following closing arguments from both sides. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers will make the final determination on liability, as the jury's verdict is advisory only. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, claims his roughly $38 million donation was misused for commercial purposes. His attorneys argued OpenAI failed to open source technology and prioritize safety. OpenAI's legal team countered that Altman and Brockman made no structural commitments and that donations were properly spent. The remedies phase also begins Monday.
