Kalshi has launched perpetual futures contracts on gold and silver following regulatory approval this week, broadening its derivatives platform beyond prediction markets. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission cleared the listing after the company filed in July. Trading on the new precious metals contracts began Thursday. This marks the second major asset class expansion for the platform, following cryptocurrency perpetual futures approved in May, which have generated $44 billion in notional volume. Kalshi's chief risk officer cited strong investor demand for metals exposure, particularly driven by inflation concerns. The company's existing commodity event contracts on metals and oil achieved $400 million in trading volume within seven months. Metals reached this threshold in half the time it took crypto contracts. Kalshi is also pursuing CFTC approval for perpetual futures tied to U.S. equities, copper, and currency pairs, expected in August.
