Kalshi's internal clearing house, Kalshi Klear, filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Tuesday requesting permission to offer leverage on event contracts. The platform seeks to enable margin trading on a limited basis, restricting the feature to certain trader categories while excluding sports, culture and mention markets from leverage offerings. The move reflects industry efforts to attract institutional participation to prediction market exchanges, where margin trading remains standard practice in traditional equities and derivatives markets. Kalshi already provides leverage on perpetual futures contracts. The company plans to keep event contracts fully collateralized. Rival Polymarket pursued regulatory licenses for similar margin trading capabilities on event contracts. Prediction market volume has grown substantially over the past year, driven largely by retail participation in sports-related contracts.
