Kansas City Streetcar Authority opened its Riverfront Extension to passenger service May 18. The project completes a 0.7-mile route connecting the River Market district to the city's waterfront. The extension runs from 3rd Street and Grand Boulevard across the Grand Boulevard Bridge to Berkley Riverfront's midpoint, linking the University of Missouri–Kansas City campus to the northern terminus at Riverfront Streetcar Station. The new northern hub features a metal canopy, sculptural lighting and the CPKC Pavilion with real-time arrival displays, serving as a gateway to CPKC Stadium, home of the National Women's Soccer League's KC Current. The KC Streetcar Authority, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, Port KC and the City of Kansas City partnered on the initiative. Radmacher Brothers Excavating led construction following groundbreaking in March 2024. Planning commenced in 2016, with federal and local funding supporting the development.
