Kenworth Truck Company, Fastport and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Hiring Our Heroes program announced finalists for the 11th annual Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award recognizing military veterans who have entered professional truck driving. Eleven semi-finalists gathered in Columbus at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum before traveling to Kenworth's Chillicothe manufacturing plant for the finalist announcement and facility tour. The cohort represents the most experienced class in the award's history, with six semi-finalists retiring at E-7 rank or above, including two Sergeants Major. Registered Apprenticeship programs shaped this year's nominations. Sixty percent of applications came from drivers completing or having completed Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship initiatives. Five of the Elite 11 currently participate in apprenticeships.
