Knight-Swift Transportation is positioned to pursue aggressive pricing increases as the trucking market enters new contract negotiations, bolstered by favorable capacity dynamics and strong operational metrics. The carrier reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of 83 cents per share, exceeding analyst expectations by 7 cents and surpassing year-ago results by 51 cents. Tender rejection rates ran two to three times higher than industry averages, signaling acute capacity constraints. Spot rates outpaced contractual pricing throughout the quarter. The truckload division's adjusted operating ratio improved 700 basis points year-over-year to 89.2%. Revenue per tractor climbed 11% excluding fuel surcharges. Loaded miles per tractor increased 1%, marking the eighth straight year-over-year improvement. Fleet utilization benefited from selective capacity reductions, with deadhead declining 170 basis points year-over-year to 12%.
