Kodiak Robotics has selected IKEA as its flagship partner for driverless long-haul trucking operations, with commercial service expected to begin before the end of 2025. The autonomous vehicle operator will leverage four years of daily freight runs between Houston and the Frisco, Texas area to inform the driverless rollout. Kodiak has accumulated nearly 4 million miles of autonomous testing across more than seven years of development. The company must complete a comprehensive safety case demonstrating system reliability through hardware analysis, simulation testing and track verification before removing drivers entirely. A new partnership with PrePass will integrate Kodiak's autonomous trucks into state roadside inspection systems, addressing regulatory compliance at weigh stations. The integration represents a critical operational requirement as autonomous trucking transitions from testing phases into active shipper networks.
