Korean Air has locked in an order for eight Boeing 777-8 freighters to support fleet modernization. The Seoul-based carrier's total procurement includes 20 777-9 aircraft, 25 787-10s, and 50 737-10s for a combined 103-aircraft deal. A signing ceremony took place September 15 in Seoul, following the initial commitment made in Washington DC last August. The investment supports capacity expansion following Korean Air's December 2024 acquisition of majority stake in Asiana Airlines, with a merger expected as the final integration step. Korean Air currently operates four 747-400Fs, six 747-8Fs, and 12 777Fs. The carrier also converted seven A350 passenger aircraft on order to freighter configuration in October last year. The new generation fleet transition will bolster fuel efficiency and advance the airline's carbon reduction objectives.
