Container dwell times at the San Pedro Bay port complex remained largely stable in April, with truck-destined cargo averaging 2.59 days at Los Angeles-Long Beach marine terminals, unchanged from March figures. The metric has stayed below three days for 15 consecutive months, signaling consistent gate fluidity and available drayage capacity at the nation's busiest container port. Rail-destined containers averaged 5.41 days in March and remained modestly elevated in April. The Pacific Merchant Shipping Association noted rail performance has remained elevated for five months running since December 2025. Railroads reported steady increases across most freight categories including intermodal in April. Rising long-haul trucking rates are pushing some shippers toward rail as a cost alternative, though drayage capacity and pricing have remained largely unaffected by broader market shifts.
