The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority opened three new stations on its D (Purple) Line on May 8, extending the subway system by 3.92 miles westward from Koreatown. The new stations at LaBrea Avenue, Fairfax Avenue and LaCienega Boulevard mark the completion of Section 1 of the expansion project into West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. Transit officials said riders can now travel from Wilshire and Western station to the new western terminus in approximately 21 minutes, serving neighborhoods including Hancock Park, Windsor Square and the Fairfax District. Two additional sections totaling slightly more than five miles remain under construction in Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood, with each section adding two stations. When fully completed, the Wilshire corridor will span nine miles with nine total stations following the line's split from the B (Red) Line.
