Los Angeles Metro recorded its strongest ridership performance in more than six years during May, with total system trips reaching 26.9 million across bus and rail services. The surge was driven primarily by the D Line's expansion, which opened three new stations on May 8 and generated a 62% year-over-year ridership increase. The new D Line stations attracted 8,000 to 10,000 daily riders during their inaugural month. Weekend rail traffic jumped 18%, while weekday ridership climbed 8%. The A Line grew 11.3%, the B Line increased 7%, and the K Line surged 48%. Rail ridership totaled 6.47 million for the month. Metro Board Chair Fernando Dutra attributed the gains to expanded connectivity to employment, education, entertainment, and cultural destinations across the region.
