Landstar System expects to gain market share as regulatory changes reshape the freight brokerage landscape. The company's second-quarter results showed business capacity owners generating $563 million in revenue, up 22% year-over-year, with loads increasing 10% and per-load revenue climbing 11%. BCO tractor count reached 8,544 units, the largest sequential gain since early 2022, with an additional 49 units added in July. Revenue per mile rose 11% year-over-year on dry van shipments and 10% on flatbed shipments. Management attributes growth prospects to the Supreme Court's Montgomery ruling, which expanded broker liability for negligent hiring practices. Landstar is consolidating its carrier network, reducing approved carriers from over 100,000 in 2022 to 64,600. The company is attracting smaller brokers seeking partnerships with larger, better-resourced operators. It recently integrated a Midwest broker generating $18 million annually—significantly larger than most new Landstar agents, which typically generate less than $5 million in revenue.
