Cross-border logistics executives gathered in Laredo this week to discuss emerging solutions to operational constraints affecting U.S.-Mexico freight flows. The 9th Annual Modernization of Cross-Border Trade conference drew over 500 industry participants to address mounting regulatory and operational hurdles. A proposed automated freight corridor between Laredo and Monterrey could help address congestion and compliance challenges. The discussion came as enforcement actions targeting B-1 visa truck drivers intensified. Officials reported more than 300 B-1 visas were revoked for drivers using the Colombia-Solidarity International Bridge this year, which processes approximately 3,500 freight truck crossings daily. In response, Nuevo León state officials launched a pilot program three weeks ago. The program allows U.S. truck drivers to cross into Mexico, deliver freight, and return northbound with loaded vehicles.
