Liege Airport and Viracopos International Airport have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop new freighter services connecting Belgium and Brazil. The partnership will focus on joint marketing efforts, airline recruitment, and market analysis to establish regular cargo operations between the two regions.

Both airports plan to offer commercial incentives to carriers while conducting technical studies on feasibility. Pharmaceutical shipments represent a priority sector for development. Viracopos reported a 43% increase in pharmaceutical imports during 2026 and is constructing a dedicated cold warehouse to double its pharma storage capacity.

The airports also identified technology and e-commerce shipments as substantial growth opportunities. Beyond direct Europe-Brazil routes, the partnership will explore connections linking Asia and Latin America through Liege's hub. Business development teams from both facilities will engage airlines, freight forwarders, and shippers to identify service requirements and develop tailored logistics solutions.
