Danny Keating, an attorney central to a New Orleans staged accident scheme, was sentenced Thursday to 32 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Keating pleaded guilty to his role in "Operation Sideswipe," a conspiracy involving intentional collisions between passenger vehicles and commercial trucks in the New Orleans area. He is the sole attorney in the case to accept a plea deal and has provided substantial cooperation to prosecutors. His testimony proved instrumental in securing convictions against fellow attorneys Vanessa Motta and Jason Giles in March. The sentence exceeds the two-year recommendation sought by prosecutors but falls below federal guidelines of 57 to 60 months. Keating's defense requested probation, citing health concerns and cooperation with investigators. He must report to federal prison by January 11, 2027. Motta and Giles await sentencing.
