Lowe's has become the first home improvement retailer to offer drone delivery, launching a pilot program at its Matthews, North Carolina location through partnerships with DoorDash and Alphabet's Wing. The service delivers curated small items including hand tools, paint supplies, tape, batteries and soap in as fast as 20 minutes. Products eligible for drone delivery must weigh no more than 2.5 pounds. Customers access the service through the DoorDash app and select the drone delivery option during checkout. The move positions Lowe's against competitors seeking faster fulfillment options. Home Depot recently rolled out express same-day delivery nationwide using DoorDash drivers. Walmart and Amazon have also adopted drone delivery services. Amazon uses its own drone technology, while Walmart partners with Wing. Wing and Walmart plan to expand drone delivery to more than 270 locations across nearly 20 metropolitan areas by 2027, including Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami and Philadelphia.
