Lufthansa Cargo cautioned shippers of potential delays at Frankfurt and Munich airports, citing exceptionally high cargo volumes compounded by heat-related technical constraints and existing handling backlogs. The carrier extended processing times and flagged some shipments for possible rebooking. To work down the backlog and restore operational stability, Lufthansa Cargo implemented emergency measures including additional handling personnel. A temporary cargo transit embargo took effect at Munich from July 7-9, excluding Build-Up, Valuable Cargo, Emergency Shipments and smaller Zoom shipments from restrictions. Road Feeder Services and local acceptance operations continued uninterrupted. The delays underscore growing operational challenges as European summer temperatures climb, forcing air cargo handlers to enhance infrastructure resilience. Lufthansa Cargo separately continues evaluating options for returning its Airbus A321 freighter fleet to service following operational restructuring.
