Lufthansa Cargo has begun operations in the ALPHA phase of its €600 million renovation project at Frankfurt Airport. The carrier is transforming its 80,000 square-meter cargo facility into Europe's most advanced air cargo hub by 2030 while maintaining round-the-clock operations. The new infrastructure features intelligent material flow systems and automated conveyor networks connecting all operational steps. A 42-meter high-bay warehouse with nearly 3,000 pallet storage slots will perform over 300 storage and retrieval operations hourly, doubling existing capacity. An automated temperature-controlled warehouse for specialized shipments complements the facility. Lufthansa Cargo handles nearly every second metric ton of air cargo at Frankfurt Airport. Future BRAVO and CHARLIE phases through 2030 will incorporate photovoltaic systems covering 19,000 square meters of roof space, heat recovery systems, and green roofs.
