Lufthansa Cargo halted all-cargo flights to Mumbai International Airport from Sept. 20 through month-end, citing operational disruptions from a major construction project. The carrier operated six weekly freighter rotations using 12 Boeing 777 aircraft and will resume service Oct. 1 at Navi Mumbai International Airport. Airport operator Adani Group attributed congestion to surging cargo volumes driven by seasonal demand and increased air shipments of nonstandard cargo, with ground delays reaching three days. Cathay Cargo has already shifted freighter operations to Navi Mumbai. Logistics providers warn customers to expect extended delays in cargo acceptance, handling and customs clearance, with consolidation restrictions affecting scheduled flight connections and cut-off times. Lufthansa said passenger airline cargo operations remain unaffected. Industry observers note multiple carriers face capacity constraints from infrastructure limitations.
