Historically high freight yields are driving Maersk's new dedicated container shuttle between India's Nhava Sheva port and Khor Fakkan in the UAE. The service commenced September 24 with the 2,600 teu Maersk Namibia and initially operates fortnightly. Spot rates from Nhava Sheva to Khor Fakkan currently command $6,000-$7,000 per 40ft container, while other Gulf destinations command steeper premiums: $9,500 per 40ft to Dammam and approximately $10,000 per 40ft for high-cube containers to Umm Qasr. The dedicated loop complements Maersk's regular sailings to Salalah, Oman. Khor Fakkan has become a critical import gateway for the Middle East amid regional shipping volatility. Chinese carrier CULines is also preparing to launch an Asia-Middle East service, expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
