Maersk is diverting two India-US east coast services to PSA Mumbai due to capacity constraints at its regular Nhava Sheva Port terminal. The Maersk Kensington and Clementine Maersk will call at BMCT instead of DP World Nhava Sheva on May 22 and 29, respectively. Terminal sources attributed the shift to yard space limitations at the regular berth, with the carrier needing to clear backlogged containers—predominantly empties—before accepting fresh volumes. The last-minute rerouting complicates shipper logistics and introduces cost variables, as terminal handling charges differ between facilities. Nhava Sheva has endured significant gate disruption in recent weeks, creating friction among port stakeholders. In response to ongoing trucking delays, PSA Mumbai signed a memorandum with rail operator Container Corp of India to expand multimodal transport options and strengthen port-to-hinterland connectivity across the country.
