Meta is launching subscription services for artificial intelligence features and premium tiers across its social platforms, marking another attempt to diversify revenue beyond digital advertising. The company will test paid Meta AI subscriptions in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia while rolling out premium subscription options for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. CEO Mark Zuckerberg also indicated a cloud computing business remains under consideration. This could potentially position Meta to compete with major infrastructure providers. Advertising generated nearly 98% of Meta's $56.3 billion first-quarter revenue, reflecting the platform's historical dependence on ad sales. While Meta achieved its fastest quarterly growth since 2021, the company's past efforts to establish non-advertising businesses have largely stalled. Industry observers note the difficulty of building multiple revenue streams simultaneously in competitive markets.
