Mexican manufacturers built 15,181 heavy-duty vehicles in September, more than double the 6,857 units produced a year earlier, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography and the National Association of Bus, Truck and Tractor-Trailer Producers.

The dramatic acceleration reflects strong U.S. demand as customers prepare for new Environmental Protection Agency emissions standards taking effect in 2027. Industry leaders say manufacturers and fleet operators are advancing purchase decisions ahead of the regulatory deadline.

Through the first nine months of 2026, Mexico exported 98,394 heavy-duty vehicles, up 12% year-over-year. The U.S. absorbed 90,967 units, representing 92.3% of total exports and reflecting a 9% increase from the comparable 2025 period. Canada also recorded gains.

Despite robust export growth, Mexico's domestic market remains sluggish amid weak sales and delayed fleet replacement decisions.
