Microsoft is negotiating to provide its Maia 200 artificial intelligence processor to Anthropic, potentially strengthening the software giant's position in custom silicon supply against Amazon and Google. The Maia 200, announced in January, has not yet been made available through Azure cloud services. Anthropic has not finalized terms with Microsoft, according to sources familiar with the discussions. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently acknowledged the company faces significant computing constraints as demand for its Claude assistant and development tools surges. A deal would strengthen Microsoft's position following its November $5 billion investment in Anthropic and the AI firm's commitment to spend $30 billion on Azure services. Anthropic currently distributes computing workloads across Microsoft, Amazon and Google infrastructure.
