Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport inaugurated a 337,000 square-foot air cargo facility on October 14, capable of handling five Boeing 747-400 aircraft simultaneously. The Wisconsin airport completed the project in partnership with Crow Holdings. The 19-month construction project took place at the MKE Regional Business Park. The facility features truck docking capabilities and enhanced taxiway access designed for widebody cargo aircraft operations. Airport leadership expects the cargo operation to attract shippers seeking alternatives to congested Illinois hubs. The project is projected to generate more than $1.3 million annually in aircraft landing fees, plus more than $1 million in ground lease revenue. Airport Director Brian Dranzik called the opening a transformative moment, positioning MKE as a regional logistics hub while creating economic development opportunities across Wisconsin.
