Mitsubishi Motors North America has designated Port Freeport as a strategic distribution gateway through a new logistics partnership with terminal operator AMPORTS. Operations began April 28, with over 500 vehicles arriving in the first month. Imported Mitsubishi vehicles are unloaded and processed on-site for accessorization before shipment to dealerships across the Gulf and Midwest regions. The collaboration reduces inland transportation costs and streamlines dealer deliveries. Port officials formalized the arrangement during a July 1 ceremony coinciding with the Höegh Sunrise's arrival. Mitsubishi has partnered with AMPORTS since 1983 at Baltimore and Jacksonville facilities. Cars represented approximately $2.81 billion of Port Freeport's imports in 2025, establishing automobiles as a leading traded commodity. The port received an $11 million federal grant in May for terminal modernization.
