Morristown & Erie Railway unveiled locomotive No. 26 on June 20 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. The short line revealed the unit during a ceremony at its Morristown, New Jersey headquarters, drawing hundreds of employees, community members, and railroad enthusiasts. The locomotive, originally built by EMD in 1977 as Southern Railway MP15DC No. 2354, received a custom paint scheme blending Southern Railway heritage with M&E's signature red colors. M&E crews completed the transformation in-house over several weeks. The unit carries special lettering referencing "Washington Headquarters" and "Crossroads of the Revolution," honoring Morristown's historical significance as General George Washington's headquarters during the 1779-1780 winter encampment. The locomotive will enter regular freight service while representing the railroad throughout America 250 celebrations this year.
