MSC has redeployed its Pearl transpacific service effective Saturday to meet surging early-season demand on Asia-US routes, joining Maersk in adding capacity. The service operates on a 42-day loop connecting Yantian, Xiamen, and Long Beach, utilizing vessels ranging from 4,800 teu to 8,200 teu. The string previously operated February through August 2025. Five ships will handle the initial cycle with one blank sailing, anchored by the 4,872 teu MSC Lyse V. Strong fundamentals—including AI-driven cargo growth and renewable energy shipments—are fueling the acceleration. Shanghai-US West Coast rates climbed 10% to $4,552 per 40ft, while East Coast rates gained 8% to $5,741 per 40ft. Carrier rate hikes on June 15 face headwinds from the added Pearl and Maersk TPX capacity, though capacity constraints and equipment shortages are expected to support tight conditions through July.
