A California trucking company owner has pleaded guilty to orchestrating a $2.1 million identity theft scheme involving nearly 100 stolen identities. Hasan Korkmaz, 45, of Las Vegas, admitted to 18 counts of bank fraud, money laundering and aggravated identity theft on October 15. Operating San Diego Logistics Group Inc., Korkmaz processed fraudulent credit card transactions through his trucking business and other enterprises between 2022 and 2023. Individual transactions reached as high as $18,500, affecting two banks. The scheme involved opening credit card accounts using stolen personal information—names, birth dates and Social Security numbers—then exhausting available credit without repayment. Korkmaz also submitted checks from nonexistent accounts to temporarily restore credit limits. Authorities traced proceeds to financial accounts in Turkey. After remaining overseas for 18 months, Korkmaz returned to the United States and was arrested in June 2025.
