Nine arrested in cross-country cocaine smuggling operation

Authorities in Florida dismantled a drug trafficking ring that used commercial truck tractors to transport cocaine from Texas. The operation resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of 60 kilograms of narcotics.

Investigators tracked the operation for three years, focusing on suspect Daniel Pinales and his distribution network. The smuggling scheme involved moving 132 pounds of cocaine from El Paso to Pinellas County via tractor-trailers, with operatives using disabled vehicles as cover to avoid detection during roadside inspections.

Detectives observed the group's monthly pattern: three men arrived near Interstate 75 in Wesley Chapel, checked into a hotel, and coordinated transfers of cocaine-filled duffel bags from a black tractor's sleeper compartment to Pinales. Pinales then distributed the drugs throughout Pinellas County. Operatives received approximately $1 million per delivery.

The investigation culminated in July when authorities intercepted a southbound convoy near Lake City. The arrests led to seizure of all vehicles involved.
