Norfolk Southern is rolling out six custom-painted locomotives to commemorate America's 250th anniversary. Each unit features designs inspired by iconic national symbols, including the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, and American bald eagle, honoring the railroad's historical role in transporting these symbols across the country. All locomotives were built domestically, with No. 8143 constructed by Wabtec/General Electric in Erie, Pennsylvania. The complete customization and painting will be handled by NS's Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where skilled railroaders will apply the detailed schemes. The paint designs draw from American heritage and NS's predecessor railroads, particularly the Pennsylvania Railroad's role in moving the Liberty Bell nationwide. The completed fleet will tour the East Coast, representing both national pride and the railroad industry's two-century contribution to connecting commerce and communities.
