North Carolina has sued Vietnamese automaker VinFast Auto Ltd. over breached contractual obligations for a planned electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility in the state. The legal action seeks recovery of the project site. The move comes as VinFast pursues a major debt reduction strategy, announcing plans to divest two Vietnamese factories that would eliminate approximately 182 trillion dong ($6.9 billion) in debt and financial obligations. The company has positioned the asset sales as a path to improved profitability. The North Carolina facility represented a significant investment commitment in U.S. EV manufacturing capacity. VinFast has emphasized its long-term commitment to global service strategy and operations.
