New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's political influence faces its first major test Tuesday as three candidates he endorsed compete in competitive congressional primaries across the city. Mamdani backed former NYC Comptroller Brad Lander in the 10th district, State Assemblywoman Claire Valdez in the 7th district, and first-time candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier in the 13th district. Market traders currently estimate a 54% probability that Valdez and Lander prevail while Chevalier loses. Predictions also show a 28% chance all three candidates win and a 20% probability that only Lander secures victory. This marks the first major electoral test for Mamdani since his November 2025 mayoral election. In the 12th district, State Assemblyman Alex Bores is viewed as an underdog despite significant spending for and against him due to his positions on AI regulation.
