International Longshore and Warehouse Union members shut down Oakland terminals Wednesday in support of striking workers at C&H Sugar in Crockett, 25 miles north. Port officials said representatives from four terminal operators reported the simultaneous departure of workers across several locations. The exact number of participating dockworkers remains unclear, as private terminal companies control all hiring and staffing decisions. The walkout reflects escalating tensions in ongoing contract negotiations with C&H Sugar employees. Two union protesters faced arrest earlier this week after demonstrators blocked truck access to the refinery, which had brought in non-union labor to discharge a vessel. Sugar workers have maintained their strike since June 15.
