Ollie's Bargain Outlet will not pursue home delivery for furniture despite increased sales from expanded product lines. President and CEO Eric van der Valk made this announcement during a June 3 earnings call. The retailer previously tested a delivery program that failed to gain market acceptance. Van der Valk cited two barriers: customers reject paid shipping fees, while complimentary delivery would erode profitability. "When we price delivery to cover the cost of delivery, the customer is not willing to spend it," he stated. Maintaining low operational costs takes priority over offering last-mile service. The decision reflects broader retail economics around bulky goods fulfillment, where carrier surcharges for large items create additional expense pressures. For Ollie's, competing on everyday pricing supersedes delivery convenience in its operating strategy.
