Private equity firm Open Road Ventures has acquired intermodal 3PL Double-Stack Logistics, marking the firm's first transaction as it builds a platform of freight brokers.
Double-Stack operates as an intermodal freight broker with established relationships across Class I railroads and maintains ownership of more than 150 intermodal containers—distinguishing it from asset-light competitors.
The company specializes in converting freight typically moved over-the-road into intermodal shipments through railroad partnerships. Founder and CEO Joe Kolb said the capital infusion will accelerate expansion of service lines and geographic reach across North America.
Open Road Ventures, a middle-market M&A firm focused on acquiring small- and mid-size freight brokers, signaled plans for additional deals. Founding member Mike Riccio said the strategy aims to combine operators with complementary logistics capabilities to drive mutual growth.
